With paint and ribbon and pens we ride,
It's an art witch party for Samhaintide!
May I present to you a host of Samhain grimoire prompts to witch-pack your grimoire this spooky season.
1) Create a bone themed page.
Do you use bones in your craft? What does the word "bone" illicit in your imagination? Fill a background with bone shapes and pen a spell over the top.
2) Research a local haunting.
Is there a place known for paranormal activity? A place you personally feel the presence of the other? Draw a map, illustrate a comic or photo document the location.
3) Investigate augury and include personal auspices in a spread.
What signs do you notice when you're in tune with your magick and the natural world? Create a catalogue of omens.
4) Celebrate Spider Season.
Play with crayon and watercolor resist or needle and thread to weave spiderwebs into your grimoire pages. What kind of magick do spiders or webs evoke for you? How could you incorporate spider and web imagery into your own visual language for creation and connection?
5) Paint faces on leaves to create a swarm of ghosts or plucky nature spirits to protect and haunt your grimoire.
6) Libations for the Dead...and the Living.
What is your recipe for Samhain cider, party punch, sangria, coco or simmer pot? Create a special libation as an offering to be enjoyed by the living and the dead.
7) Curate a playlist to honor your beloved dead.
Make a log of songs that represent people you admire, family, pets or ancestors of tradition who have passed over.
8) Create a spread that includes a poem, song or quote about the nature of fear.
What does fear feel like in your body? Can it be motivating? How can you work with your fear to create magick in the world and change in your life?
9) Make a 2D shrine for a loved one.
Honor a beloved who has crossed over with an shrine that can be tucked into your book: an envelope, card, pocket or pop up to express your love, foster communication and keep their memory alive.
You may feel inspired to take a magickal action that makes this ancestor or ancestral group proud...
10) Write an "Ancestor", "Other world" or "Beyond" acrostic poem.
Are there any other words that evoke the mystery of the season for you? Create a word spell with these phrases of power.
11) Count Down Spread.
Have fun cutting windows and doors into a spread and create your own "advent" style Samhain calendar. There is so much joy in the anticipation of spooky season! What better way to invite childhood joy into your book with a nostalgic Samhain grimoire prompt?
12) Create your own divination game.
Illustrate a page with oracular images or words. Toss a coin or dice onto the page and read the space where the coin lands. Make the readings whimsical or profound. What wisdom awaits you?

13) Explore the underworld.
What images illicit the depth, vastness and magick of the underworld?
Consider playing with pomegranate stamps or pomegranate images.
Do you have an underworld guide?
What kind of animals or creatures inhabit the underworld?
What are your own conceptions of the underworld?
14) Write a gratitude letter to a deceased person.
This individual may be historical, familial or inspirational. How would you like to thank them? What would you like them to know? Ask for advice, guidance or assurance.
15) The Pumpkin Patch.
How many different varieties of pumpkin or gourd can you draw or document?
How could you incorporate their wide variety of colors and textures into your grimoire to evoke Samhaintide magick?
16) What scents do you associate with Samhain?
Do you have a special incense blend recipe? What could you create using what you have in the pantry? Don't be afraid to include mythical or imaginal ingredients for extra oomph...
17) Collage with dyed coffee filters or used tea bags.
Don't throw them out! Save coffee filters and tea bags for a mysterious collage fodder.
These organic textures harken to memory and the passage of time.
How will you conjure the spirit of Samhain in your magick book, Moon Baby?
